On July 23, the 22nd meeting of Tokyo Metropolitan Toastmasters Club was held at Kudan Lifelong Learning Center. The meeting welcomed several guests.
There were four prepared speeches at the meeting, two in English and two in Japanese. The first English speech was made by TM M-ma. He talked about the importance of biting when we eat, using vivid examples of both people and animal (donkey) recovering their health through proper biting.
TM S-ne was the second speaker for the meeting. As an IT professional he talked about Google plus, why it is different from the existing SNS such as Facebook and how we can use it.
TM K-gai was our third speaker. This was his Icebreaker (the first speech a member gives when he or she joins a Toastmasters Club) and the speech was in Japanese. Titled “Things I don’t have”, he humorously talked about his personal stories mainly those with sports.
The final speaker was TM S-ki. It was also her Icebreaker in Japanese, and she talked about her favorite movie “New Cinema Paradise” and its attraction. Each of the speeches was evaluated by other fellow Toastmasters. TM M-ma got the Best Speakers Award and LGM Ohmi received the Best Evaluator Award.
TM Y-chi was in charge of News of the Week for the first time. She made a short speech on the emergence of LCC (low-cost carrier). TM J.M served as the Table Topics Master for the first time and asked questions on nadeshiko Japan from the viewpoint of a South Korean.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. A-ki, who was a third-time visitor, declared her membership and was inducted right away. We will need only six more members before we get chartered (i.e. officially approved by Toastmasters International)! After the meeting we went to a Japanese-style noodle restaurant and enjoyed the summertime soba noodle over cheerful conversations.
